When God Changes your Calling (Fall 2025)

During our recent Lead Like Jesus leadership event in Havana we were confronted with the harsh reality of what Cuban pastors are confronted with on a daily basis. Their nation was in the grip of a new and extremely painful mosquito-born virus, and with no access to the basic medications for fever and pain we take for granted in the U.S. The eastern end of the island was drowning in the aftermath of Hurricane Melissa and these dear servants of the Lord were in need of more  than just three days of teaching and fellowship. The cry of their hearts was for “boots on the ground” help for their churches and communities. 

Thanks to the generosity of our partners, FirstChurch was overwhelmed with donations for humanitarian aid before we left. Lead Like Jesus became more than a  message to be preached but a new calling for us to love the Cuban people on a level that would require we step out of our comfort zone to meet the real needs of the people Jesus died to save and that we have been called to serve. 

Because of the overwhelming support of our FirstChurch family, we were able to provide financial assistance for a caravan of vehicles loaded with food and medicine for hurricane relief, and provided additional funds to several pastors across the island tasked with feeding and caring for the communities hardest hit.

New Math Comes to Cuba

It began as a dream by one of the pastors we support that became a vision for the economic future of the Cuban church. He nurtured the vision for several years in prayer and attended  marketplace missions training events hosted by our good friends at Global Advance. The encouragement and Bible based business practices learned in these meetings, along with the generous support of our FirstChurch partners this year has helped to launch a business that we believe will begin to provide economic stability for many churches and inspire more pastors and leaders to dream again for the nation of Cuba.
